Our husky safaris are private and designed for small groups. As a rule, we run up to three sleds per safari, which means up to six adults can join together. If you are travelling with small children, we can accommodate a larger group, since children can share a sled with an adult. Larger groups are possible by arrangement, so please contact us before booking and we will confirm what works best for your group. Contact us →
Yes. Our private "Into the Aurora with huskies" tour takes you out with a husky team on a winter evening in Kuusamo, Finland, with a chance to see the northern lights. Northern lights are a natural phenomenon and cannot be guaranteed, but our location in Suorajärvi, away from city lights, gives you dark skies and a good setting to see them on clear nights. The safari goes ahead in any case, and the rest of the experience takes place as planned.
Yes. At Railakka Huskies, our dogs are family members. We have about 30 huskies and we know each dog's personality, behaviour and individual needs.Living conditions. Our dogs move freely in and out of their home, an old barn we have converted into a dog house. Every day, all of our dogs run free in a fenced one-hectare yard. In summer, they can swim straight from our own shore.Food. The dogs eat a healthy, varied diet of meat, kibble and fish. Fresh water available all the time.Training and workload. We train our dogs from autumn through winter, weather permitting, using different distances and different team combinations. We keep notes on every training session and safari, so we can see how much each dog has run and when it has rested. During the winter season we run a maximum of two safaris per day and our dogs take turns so that no dog runs more than necessary. Every dog gets at least one full rest day per week and in practice considerably more.Retired dogs. Some of our older dogs have come to us from larger kennels to enjoy a well-earned retirement. They also help us teach the younger dogs good manners. Some of the older dogs still run selected safaris on shorter distances and according to their condition.Health and care. We follow the dogs condition and wellbeing every day. In Finland, animal facilities are inspected by official supervising veterinarians and our kennel has been inspected as well. You are always welcome to meet the dogs on a farm visit and see how they live 😊🐾
